13th Co. Runepriest

An awesome figure, so much cooler than the GD wolfpriest with his silly hat! I figured he needed a wolf backpack and a banner though, as well as a bit of personality. I decided to add little bits of detail to the model here and there, as though he'd been customising his armour over the centuries as things happened or as the mood took him. His 13th Co. symbol is quite elaborate, with a woven ribbon crescent which I then mostly covered up with the red wolves head. Note to self - put in the outlines of the top detail *before* spending half an hour highlighting something that'll be covered with paint... The banner was the main bit of personality, as it really is quite random looking. My theory here was that he'd added things as they seemed important, so it's less of a big propaganda statement (like most Space Marine banners and chapter imagery) and more like a personal history. Also, the star on his forehead - *not* a Chaos star :-). I'd read something about Icelandic sailors of old tattooing a compass on their foreheads to help them find their way home - seemed appropriate for a Space Wolf wandering about in the Eye of Terror. Gave him a little pathos :-). The pattern on his knee came out beautifully, but I really wish I'd used a different background for the pic as this one makes it all a bit too contrasty and looks grainy.
