Special Ops themed Space Marine army

This was a collaborative project between myself (the painter), Insaniak (Under The Couch - the modeller) and James (Speed Adict, the owner of both the army and the concept). It meant I was lucky enough to get a very cool army delivered to me mostly assembled, so that I could get straight into the painting.

The army was for the invite-only tournament Liber Animus, played in Melbourne Australia, and took out 2nd place against stiff competition in the "Harlequin" category, which combines painting and composition scores.

The force has a very urban look to it with the mostly grey armour and yellow trim on the characters/sergeants. The colour scheme was mostly planned out in advance by James, and only a few things needed discussing along the way. Probably my main addition was the hazard striping on the bases - it ties together the units and livens up the urban basing against the grey armour.

This thread on Wargamer AU has plenty of awesome pics of the models before paint.

Images of the army in action: here, here, here and here.

The highly converted Dreadnaught - ties in beautifully with the urban-themed army. I painted the cage with hazard stripes to better frame the centre of the model.

The Librarian's little friend:

The Librarian - a glow of building power is visible coming from his eyes and hand.

Tournament requirements; shrine, ammo-dump and hero.

The Deathwatch - distinctive basing ties the otherwise disparate models to the rest of the army.

Note the cool custom backpacks and loads of re-positioning.

Assault squads - something a lot cooler than the standard jump-pack.

Scout snipers.

More assault marines :).
