Possessed Dreadnought

This was going to be one of my Golden Demon entries for 2005, but I couldn't quite get it done on time. I finished painting it over Christmas that year, and then tweaked it again earlier in 2006. I did enter it in a local hobby event, Conflict, and it placed first in its category... but that's never quite as exciting as the Demons, is it? I couldn't decide what to do on the banner in time and just went for the cog-halo from my site-banner (above).

I really wish I'd taken some WIP pics... the demon is sculpted (my first real attempt at doing sculpting from scratch) and I think I learned some useful stuff from doing it that way. What actually took the longest was repositioning the Dread's legs into that pose - so much slicing carefully between bits of machinery joints then greenstuffing it to the right shape, redoing pipes and changing all kinds of things just so that the angles would align. Incredible how much more work there is on something like a mecha-walker compared to just legs... it's got to look plausible, and with all the hydraulics showing that takes a lot of work.

The smaller, ribbony banners are Wood Elf pieces, and I think the larger one is from the Immolater kit, cut and generally interfered with to look tattered.
